With the introduction of the Community Drinking Water Regulation, the European Union has drawn up binding guidelines for all Member States. One of the most significant novelties is the definition of responsibilities for businesses or owners of drinking water systems. According to the new regulation, the responsibility to comply with the parameters established by the law regarding the extraction, preparation and distribution of water passes to the owners of the plants. Water quality as a main food must be guaranteed in both cool and heated form. Based on the considerations of the new regulation, the World Health Organization (WHO) advises all companies where water plays an important role in the production of goods or the provision of services to develop a "Water Safety Plan" to demonstrate that they have undertaken the requirements of the Community legislation. The "Water Safety Plan" is based on a HACCP concept. On the basis of the Regulation introduced and its application in italian national law, provision is made for training to prepare the companies involved in the audit and certification of their drinking water facilities. A key element of the training activity will be the "Water Safety Plan".
