The project aims at introducing an open technological architecture for the future management of local public transport. The main goal for implementing this architecture will be to fully exploit the new strategy with which the Mobility Department of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano wants to manage the future public transport system in South Tyrol, as defined in the new Provincial Law concerning public transport (PL 15/2015 of 13.11.2015). Thanks to this project existing components, such as the fare system and the integrated contactless ticket Alto Adige / Südtirol Pass, will be able to evolve to a new level of technological maturity. It will also allow the introduction of new components, in order to obtain a better overall management of the public transport system and to develop richer and more accurate information services for the users. Special attention is devoted to the definition of the data interfaces between all single components to guarantee the maximum interoperability and modularity of the system as well as a transparent relationship between all involved actors. The proposed architecture aims not only at managing data related to public transport services on road, but also at those related to rail and cable-car services, in order to become the main central aggregation and distribution point in the Province of all integrated static and real-time public transportation information. This enhancement will take place according to the open data logic, which will allow third party service providers to develop new added-value services for the end users.
